Long before Carole King became a chart-topping music legend, she was Carol Klein, a girl from Brooklyn. Beloved for penning such iconic pop classics as "You've Got a Friend" and "I Feel the Earth Move," she fought her way into the record business as a teenager and ultimately flourished, writing hits for some of the biggest acts in rock 'n' roll. But it wasn't until her personal life began to crack that she finally found her true voice. Beautiful is the inspiring true story of King's remarkable rise to stardom, from part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. It's no surprise that Beautiful -- The Carole King Musical won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album of 2015. See this unforgettable show at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in New York City.

When it comes to celebrating the beauty of nature in painting, the name that immediately springs to mind is Georgia O'Keeffe. From her desert vistas to her close-up, sensuous abstractions of flowers, The Mother of American Modernism's work realigns the viewer's perception to recognize the wonder of the natural world all around us. So it makes sense that the Hawaiian Pineapple Company (now Dole) would hire O'Keeffe to paint the island paradise in order to make mouths water for their pineapples. Now you can enjoy the little-known paintings from this trip complemented with lush Hawaiian flora in the The New York Botanical Garden's Conservatory. Come immerse yourself in beauty.

Win your own version of The Dundee as The Office comes to New York's Bryant Park Lounge for a trivia night based on the show about America's favorite fictional paper company. No teams are necessary, as fans of the '05-'13 NBC sitcom will be divided into four to six groups for a game that'll run about five rounds. Teams will be mixed up after each round. So if you're familiar with Shrute and Scranton-esque things like the site of Jim and Pam's first kiss, where Michael and Jan went on vacation and have an excellent memory for "Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica," you may just earn an honorary spot on the party committee and take home a prize at the end of the evening.
It's not often that you hear the phrases "family friendly" and "improv comedy" in the same sentence, but that's exactly what you get with this fun and funny show. Improv 4 Kids comes to the Broadway Comedy Club with an entertaining production that has impressed audiences of all ages in New York City and nationwide. No two versions are ever the same as the high-energy troupe Eight Is Never Enough creates songs and skits on the spot based on audience suggestions. Lots of audience volunteers get to join the action on stage, too. The troupe has played off-Broadway at the Lambs Theatre in New York City and presented more than 1,000 performances at the Laugh Factory in Times Square and the New York Improv.

The fact that Oscar Wilde, the genius behind The Importance of Being Earnest and other oh-so-grown-up stage comedies, also wrote for children often comes as a surprise. That his fairy tales are enchanting and very, very funny is no surprise at all. Indeed, "Oscar Wilde" himself comes out to introduce his tale, The Selfish Giant, now at the Players Theatre. Told through dance, puppetry, music and skilled storytelling, The Selfish Giant is an intriguing fable about a greedy giant who learns that his most prized possessions are worthless unless they're shared. Come early for an interactive arts workshop before the show. There you can meet key members of the play's creative team and make an art project that will be used in the performance ... and then can be taken home as a special souvenir.

This punchy, 75-minute production recaptures the passion and the controversy of the famous novel, then globally successful film, and repackages it into an immersive stage performance -- where the audience is literally part of the show, including the notorious "Worst Toilet in Scotland" scene. Trainspotting is the story of Mark Renton and his friends, living through the Edinburgh heroin scene of the '80s. Harry Gibson's original stage adaptation, written before it became the famous blockbuster film, was instantly successful and controversial, and won the Sunday Times Award for Best New Play. Don't miss this production at the 777 Theatre in New York City.

The first Broadway play written by an African-American woman, A Raisin in the Sun is a masterpiece that The New York Times credits with changing American theater forever. First produced in 1959 and adapted two years later into a now-classic film starring Sidney Poitier, A Raisin in the Sun is as powerful today as it was 50 years ago. Now Harlem Repertory Theatre presents the limited return of this incredible story to their stage -- a story that follows the Youngers, an African-American family attempting to move from a crowded two-bedroom apartment into a "white" neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. But a new house is just one of the Youngers' many dreams. Three generations each yearn for different versions of a better life -- whether it's a business, or a spouse, or the right to live with long-denied dignity.

Looking for a little rest and time to herself, Betty rents a summer share at the beach. But Betty's luck turns to delicious lunacy when this sensible Everywoman gets drawn into the chaotic world of some very unsavory housemates -- her friend Trudy, who talks too much; the lewd, seminaked Buck, who tries to have sex with everyone; and Keith, a possible serial killer who hides in his room with a mysterious hatbox. With sand between her toes, walking a thin line between sanity and survival, poor Betty will leave her summer vacation more terrorized than tan. Hailed as "a raucous satire of media and pop culture," see Onomatopoeia Theatre Company's production of Betty's Summer Vacation at the Gene Frankel Theatre in New York.

With their traditional costumes and instruments, a concert with Tlen-Huicani is like taking a journey into Mexico's history, accompanied by the "harpa jarocha" or folk harp, the centerpiece of their music. Since 1973, Tlen-Huicani's music and international achievements have earned the honor of 'Best Folk Group in Mexico' by the Union of Music and Theater Critics. In 2008, the governor of Veracruz honored them for the 35 years of service to the development of the cultural landscape of Veracruz. Nearing their fourth decade, Tlen-Huicani remains one of the most faithful interpreters of the traditional folk music of Veracruz, Mexico and Latin America. Their expertise earned them an appearance at the 2007 San Jose Mariachi Festival, performing alongside some of the biggest names in the genre, including Linda Ronstadt and Los Lobos. Now you can catch them live at LeFrak Concert Hall at Queens College.

Gatsby in Paris: French Chansons & Jazz Standards From the '20s to the '40s, featuring enchanting French singer Chloé Perrier and her new band, the French Heart Jazz Band. This irrepressibly charming show is a mix of French chansons and American jazz standards from the '20s to the '40s with a continental flare. Chloé sings an intriguing mix of jazz, chanson, Brazilian and occasionally Romany-tinged numbers in French, as well as in English. The group is known for its reinvention of the old chestnut "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" as a bolero-tinged Twin Peaks theme, an obscure '20s hot jazz tune that Perrier had found in a history book, and the classic "La Vie en Rose." Come to Club Bonafide in New York City and listen as exes get dissed and relationships gone wrong are dissected and remembered through glasses that aren't exactly rose-colored.

Happy Birthday, Wanda June takes a searing and darkly comedic look at American culture through the brilliantly perverse lens of Kurt Vonnegut. After being presumed dead for eight years, respected war veteran and big game hunter, Harold Ryan, returns home and brings with him an old way of thinking, celebrating a Hemingway-esque machismo and American exceptionalism. Harold soon discovers that the society he returns to has made attempts to progress into a more modern, enlightened cultural narrative. This dynamic and often hilarious meditation on toxic masculinity and a capitalistic America's failed attempts at progress cloaked in honor and morality can be enjoyed at The Duke on 42nd Street in New York City.

A jazz pianist of diverse influences and abilities, Klaus Mueller was born in Germany and raised in Japan, Chile and Brazil. He began piano lessons in Japan at the age of six. After graduating from Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts in 1998, he was granted a full scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service to further complete his studies at the New School in New York. He has been an integral part of the New York Jazz and Brazilian music scene, having performed and recorded with artists including Portinho, Ron Carter, New York Voices, Harry Allen, Leny Andrade, Paquito D' Rivera, Steve LaSpina, Emilio Santiago, Marcos Valle, Toninho Horta and Filó Machado. Tours and workshops have led him throughout the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom, Russia and the Caribbean. Mueller is not only regarded as a fine keyboardist but also as an arranger, most notably for jazz piano legend Herbie Hancock, creating orchestral versions of songs from Hancock's critically acclaimed Gershwin's World album in collaboration with Robert Sadin in 2003. He also arranged music for the prestigious classical label Deutsche Grammophon, and worked as a musical director and accompanist for the opera singer and Tony Award-winner Paulo Szot. On Mueller's 2012 album release Far-Faraway, he performed with jazz bassist Ron Carter and Brazilian drummer Portinho. His latest album, Village Samba, released in 2016, features mostly original compositions interpreted by some of today's finest Brazilian and New York-based musicians.

In the intimate setting of New York's Feinstein's/54 Below, Callaway's one-woman show Diva Power takes a personal look at the iconic voices and songs that trail-blazed the industry and shaped Callaway's artistry. While a successful songstress in her own right, Callaway is also known for her hundreds of professional songwriting credits, including several recorded by Barbra Streisand. The New York Times praised her, declaring "For sheer vocal beauty, no contemporary cabaret singer matches Ms. Callaway."

Jazz-influenced French indie singer/songwriter Violette comes to Club Bonafide in New York City. Her 2014 album, Falling Strong, showcases a collection of originals that, although rooted in jazz, reflect the young artist's eclectic range of influences, from pop to rock and R&B. Upbeat and sassy, sensual and intimate, her soulful voice immerses you in emotion. See her live at Club Bonafide in New York City.

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who love Delbert McClinton and those who haven't heard him yet. Delbert is always working on that second group. Lyle Lovett has said, "If we could all sing like we wanted to, we'd all sing like Delbert." The multi-Grammy Award-winning artist is at the top of his game with his 19th studio album, Prick Of The Litter. The new offering blends Delbert's signature rhythm and blues sound with a newer jazz influence inspired by Johnny Mercer, Nat King Cole and other legendary crooners. McClinton's road band, Self-Made Men, provide a hard-driving rhythm section, powerful guitars and innovative piano, accented by punched-up horns. Delbert's definitive vocals and distinct harmonica licks bring it all together. See them live in concert at NYC's Highline Ballroom.

Boasting sizzling songs, seductive dance numbers and a show biz story that packs a powerful punch, Chicago tells the tale of convicted murderers Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, who'll stop at nothing to get the attention of the press and celebrity attorney Billy Flynn, played by Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr. (from October 6 through November 18). During the showy decadence of the 1920s, their malicious crimes turn them into media darlings, producing a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which could just as easily be ripped from today's tabloids. A smash on Broadway (winning six Tony Awards) and on the big screen (winning six Academy Awards), this biting satire features the unforgettable songs of Kander and Ebb, including "All That Jazz," "Cell Block Tango" and many more hits. In flashbacks, Mestre chronicles her life growing up on Manhattan's Upper East Side with her mother, a thrice married, opera-singing socialite with impossible top-drawer standards, and her father, a gay, Cuban, manic-depressive concert pianist. In story and song, she shares about her parents' doomed love affair, her father's struggle with his homosexuality and his eventual tragic suicide. With sentiment and humor, she spins a tale of dysfunction and redemption. Watch the family drama unfold when Top Drawer comes to The Triad in New York.

For a singer with such powerful pipes, it's something of a shock to hear vocalist Emilie Surtees describe herself as primarily a "listener." Then again, maybe it's her extraordinary capacity to listen that gives her tribute to Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker and Whitney Houston its amazing accuracy. Surtees not only replicates hit songs, power note for power note, but communicates the soul of each singer who originally recorded them -- something that requires not only incredible vocals but also a profound appreciation of music. Be moved and amazed by a tribute artist every bit as talented as the singers she honors in this concert at Club Bonafide.

During the Met's October performances, Placido Domingo will conduct and charismatic sopranos Oksana Dyka and Angela Gheorghiu will rotate in the role of Puccini's eternal diva, Tosca, opposite tenor and champion of the Italian verismo style, Roberto Aronica as her lover, the artist and revolutionary Cavaradossi. Aronica performs one of the most beautiful arias in the operatic repertoire, "E lucevan le stelle," sung by the doomed Cavaradossi as he awaits execution. With its themes of political intrigue, sexual intimidation and hypocrisy in high places, Puccini's great masterpiece rings true today through its powerfully dramatic and gorgeous music.

A heart-breaking triangle, a heart-racing chase -- a mystery unsolved for centuries. This is the legend of Sleepy Hollow, returning to New York's Players Theatre for the fourth year.
